About DesignDusk

Usama Munir, founder of DesignDusk, holding his dog outdoors

Hi, I’m Usama Munir, the founder of DesignDusk.

I started working with independent authors after seeing how difficult it could be to find a book cover that looked professional, suited the genre, and was still affordable. What began as hands-on freelance design work gradually developed into DesignDusk, a small book cover design studio based in Perth, Australia and working with authors around the world.

Today, I work with a small team of designers to create exclusive premade and custom covers for ebooks, paperbacks, hardcovers, and audiobooks. Every order is handled by a real person, and every purchased premade cover is removed from the store.

Our story

Why I Started DesignDusk

When I began working with self-published authors, I noticed that cover design often forced them into an uncomfortable choice.

At one end were inexpensive templates that could feel generic or appear on more than one book. At the other were fully custom services that were not always practical for a first-time author’s budget or publishing schedule. Print production added another layer of difficulty, with trim sizes, page counts, spine widths, bleed, barcodes, and platform-specific requirements to manage.

I wanted DesignDusk to sit between those extremes: a place where authors could see a professional cover before buying it, choose a design that suited their genre, and receive direct help turning it into a publication-ready file.

That idea still guides the studio today. We aim to make professional book cover design easier to understand, easier to order, and more accessible without making the experience feel anonymous.

What we create

Book Cover Design Built Around How Authors Publish

We focus on the formats and practical details independent authors need to release their books professionally.

01

Exclusive Premade Covers

Browse the actual design before ordering, then request the title, subtitle, author name, and formats you need. Once purchased, the cover is removed from the store.

02

Custom Cover Design

A custom cover is developed around your manuscript, genre, audience, references, and publishing plans rather than selected from the premade catalogue.

Files for Every Format

We can prepare ebook fronts, paperback wraps, hardcover case wraps, audiobook covers, and files based on KDP or IngramSpark templates.

Clear and honest

How Our Covers Are Created

Honesty and transparency are important to us. Authors should know how the cover they are purchasing was created, especially when publishing platforms may require disclosure of AI-generated content.

Depending on the design, our work may combine licensed stock photography, manual photo compositing, typography, original illustration, and selected AI-generated or AI-assisted elements.

Every finished DesignDusk cover is composed, edited, typeset, and quality-checked by a human designer. We do not treat a raw generated image as a finished book cover.

Where AI-generated elements are used, we aim to identify the creation method clearly on the relevant product page. AI-assisted tools may also be used to extend, refine, clean, or improve imagery while the overall design remains directed and completed by a human designer.

For custom projects, authors who prefer a cover created without generative AI can tell us before ordering, and we will confirm the available approach before the project begins.
